Physical Education - Our Department
The school's status as a Health Promoting School is supported by the wide variety of activities offered in the P.E. Department, utilising the indoor facilities of a gymnasium and games hall. These are supplemented by a 25m swimming pool run by a local trust, local tennis courts, a privately owned, well equipped gym and a driving range. Extensive grass pitches accommodate many outdoor sports such as rugby, hockey, football and seasonally, athletics.
It is essential, in the interests of hygiene, that pupils have an appropriatechange of kit (no denim or bermuda/beach shorts). Showering will be encouraged after lessons. Clean non-marking footwear is essential for indoor work, with studded boots strongly recommended for outdoor activities. Swimming costumes will also be required.
It is advised that all kit is clearly marked with the pupil's name.
For those who wish to represent school teams, some additional kit may be necessary:
Red polo shirt and navy hooded top with school crest. Navy games skirt/shorts and navy socks with red hoops (all of which can be ordered from the P.E. Department).
Rugby strips are provided but students should have their own black shorts.
In the event of a pupil needing to be excused from physical activity a signed parental note is necessary, for longer term or permanent non-participation a doctor's note is also required. Attempts have been made to ensure a variety of activities are always on offer, therefore encouraging pupils to enjoy and participate in P.E. If, however, kit is forgotten regularly, pupils will enter the school discipline system.
