Modern Languages S1/S2
French
What will I learn?
You will continue to study French in First and Second Year and build on what you were taught in P6 and P7.
In First Year you will learn to:
- Talk about yourself
- Use classroom language
- Talk about your pets
- Say what you like and dislike
- Talk about your hobbies
- Say the days of the week, the months of the year, numbers and tell the time
- Talk about your school subjects
How will I learn?
You will often work with a partner and in a group. Your teacher will speak to you in French. You will speak, read worksheets and magazines, listen to tapes, play games, sing songs, watch TV and make up short plays. We encourage you to buy and use a dictionary. Your spoken work will be taped so you will need your own tape. We expect you to keep your worksheets neat and tidy in an A4 folder.
What sort of homework will I get?
You will be given regular homework. You might be asked to learn 10 words or phrases, design a poster or complete a worksheet.
How will I check my progress?
As you learn you will check how you are getting on with the help of a progress sheet. This sheet will be kept in your folder. You are encouraged to show your progress sheets to your parents. Twice a year you will have a test in reading, speaking, listening and writing.
By the end of Second Year you will feel confident about reading, speaking, listening and writing in French. We know you are going to enjoy learning French at the Berwickshire High School.
Bon courage!
