Art and Design S1/S2

First Year Course

This is followed by all pupils in mixed ability groups.

The course is continuous and progressive over two years and is designed to cover the visual elements:-

LINE • TONE • COLOUR • SHAPE • FORM • TEXTURE • PATTERN

In First Year the aim is to develop skills learned in Primary School and to build up pupils' confidence in their own ability.

The course covers

Drawing:- Exploratory, preparatory, and as a means in itself using a variety of resources, media and techniques.
Painting:- Basic painting techniques and the development of painting as a means of recording and expression.
Design:- Aspects of 2D design involving pattern making and basic graphic design.
Critical Awareness:- There will be an opportunity to look at, compare and discuss the work of artists and designers.

The aim of the course is to offer a wide range of experiences during your visits to the department.

It is hoped that by doing this pupils will ENJOY their time in the department and experience the 'magic' connected with Art and Design.
