Universities
There is information about all Scottish Universities plus a selection of English Universities in the school library.
As part of the S6 Social Education programme all S6 students get information from a range of universities regarding applying to university.
The UCAS Programme
The Berwickshire High school students apply online to UCAS. This preparation begins in August on their return to school.
Students applying for Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Studies, Oxford or Cambridge must have their applications sent by 15th October. Students intending to study other subjects should aim to complete their applications by the beginning of November 2007.
You will be expected to complete your UCAS application on-line and you will be given advice and guidelines on how to complete your Personal Statement. This will form the focus of Social Education for S6 students.
By this stage, you should already have completed research into your chosen options, by reading prospectuses, getting information on-line, speaking to relevant professionals and attending Open Days.
If your parents or carers have questions relating to UCAS, they should contact your guidance teacher or Ross Ryrie. All new S6 students should attend open days at universities. This lets students learn about the UCAS process and student finance, while also enjoying a tour of the university campus accompanied by current students. This visit aims to get students to start thinking seriously about their post-school studies.
